7:30 am
Forecast is for another HOT day. Sure is taking a toll on crops and trees. Got breakfast for husband and me. Fed cats.

8:00
Watered flowers in containers around the house and started a hose on the tomato plants in the garden. I’d like to keep them alive.

9:00
Husband went to cut stray weeds (velvetleaf) out of a milo field.

Put a load of laundry in the washing machine. Checked my e-mail. Checked on items I wanted to serve for dinner (at noon). Hung washed laundry on the outside clothesline.

10:00
Glanced at the morning newspaper. Got bills paid and ready to mail. Took the mail to the Post Office. Then went to the town’s water building to get the names of workers for the week on our town’s water self-help project so that I could get the names to the local weekly newspaper

11:00
Started dinner. Turned water off on the tomatoes in the garden…the soaker hose had worked well. Started another load of laundry.

12:00
Set the table. We ate dinner. Cleaned up the kitchen. Read the mail that had arrived before dinner.

1:00
Hung washed laundry outside. Brought in first load which was dry. Dried quickly…temperature is currently 97 degrees.

2:00
Changed clothes to go to Jewell to listen to and visit with Congressman Moran. Gathered up my things and left about 2:25 for a 20 minutes drive to Jewell.

3:00
Congressman Moran visited constituents in Jewell.

4:10
Left Jewell for a drive to Courtland (a 30 mile drive) to hear Congressman Moran there. Our local WIFE chapters had distributed forms to area farmers and ranchers about the drought, so that they could provide the Congressman with information as to how the drought was affecting and going to affect them. This information would be very helpful to the Congressman and his staff in dealing with the drought situation when he returned to Washington, DC. I was to collect the filled out forms and give them to the Congressman to hand-carry back to Washington.

4:30
The Congressman arrived.

5:45
Drove home. Changed clothes and got supper.

6:15
We ate supper. Fed cats.

7:00
Moved flowers in containers to the north side of the house so they might survive better this weekend. Watered them again. Filled the water pans for the cats.

8:00
Watched TV. Visited by phone with farmer son. Discussed heat, dryness and concern about the too-dry soil conditions for the 2001 wheat crop. Most farmers in the area are just waiting for rain.

9:00
Packed clothes for weekend trip/outing. We will ‘get away’ for the Labor Day weekend. Too dry and nothing that needs doing at the present time.

10:00
Watched the news and Leno on TV.

11:00
Went to bed.
