I'm
a little plant. Just watch me grow.
I'll tell you all things that you should know.
Remember what I say, even if you think you can't,
And that's how you learn the parts of a plant.
Roots
at the bottom, the part you cannot see.
Down and around, they find the food for me.
Roots find the water that I drink to live.
All the good things that the soil can give.
Stems
in the middle, curved or straight.
They carry water through me, and that feels great.
Stems bring the nutrients that I need
From the roots to my other parts. Yes, indeed!
My
leaves spread out as they grow from my stem.
They gather light - right! - I can count on them.
Leaves take the energy from the sun
To make my food. Their job is never done!
Flowers
are colorful and pretty as can be.
They make the fruit and the seeds, you see.
Flowers can have any size or shape or smell.
Their job is important, and they do it well.
Fruits
grow in the flower, then they come right out.
They grow around the seeds, then they scatter all about.
My seeds fall down to the earth and then
They grow another plant, and here we go again!
So
- my roots are at the bottom, below the ground,
Stems are in the middle, with leaves all around,
My flowers make seeds which fall on the earth,
Then the seeds are there for another plant's birth! |
