Cold Milk
is Cool!

Americans need more calcium! Milk and dairy foods are the richest source of calcium. One 8 oz glass of milk has 300 mg calcium.

And Americans like their milk COLD!

Be sure to serve your kids cold milk every time. They will be more likely to drink it and you will feel great about helping their bones grow strong.

Refrigeration is the single most important factor in maintaining the quality and safety of milk.

*New Guidelines for Calcium Production
Age Amount Milk Group Servings
1-3 years 500 mg 3 servings**
4-6 800 3
9-18 1,300 4
9-50 1,000 3
51+ 1,200 4

Children ages 9-18 and adults over the age of 51 need four servings of dairy a day! A serving equals 8 oz of milk, 1 cup yogurt and 1 1/2 - 2 ounces of cheese.

*New recommendations released by the National Academy of Sciences, Food and Nutrition Board

**Serving sizes for children ages 1-3 are 2/3 of adult sizes.

Refrigerate milk between 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Rotate your milk so the
newest deliveries are in the back.
Watch the "use by" dates.
Remember "first in, first out."

Do not store milk with onions
or other strong-odored foods.
Milk can absorb other odors.

Refrigerate milk immediately after delivery to prevent spoilage. If milk is allowed to warm above 45 degrees Fahrenheit, discard it.
